Carnegie Library, Anaheim, California

historic place

The Carnegie Library in Anaheim, Orange County, is a historic place. This Classical Revival style building was erected in 1908 and opened on January 1, 1909. Architect John C. Austin designed the structure, which features a red clay tile roof as a nod to local Spanish design. It was built with a ten-thousand-dollar grant from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, and the site was purchased with funds raised by local residents. This was Anaheim's first building constructed exclusively for library use. It served as a public library until 1963, then housed the city's personnel department. In 1978, it was designated a historical library, research center, and museum. The Carnegie Library was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Today, it is part of the Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center. This building holds historical significance as the only remaining Carnegie library in Orange County.
