St. Michael's Episcopal Church, Anaheim

historic place

St. Michael's Episcopal Church is a historic place in Orange County, Anaheim. The congregation was founded in 1873. The church building itself was constructed in 1876. It was designed in the Carpenter Gothic style by C.P. McKinney. The church was originally located at the corner of Emily and Adele Streets. In 1914, the building was reoriented on its original site. It was then moved approximately one mile to its current location at 311 West South Street in 1955. St. Michael's Episcopal Church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. A historical marker, erected in 1976, states that the church was consecrated on May 17, 1880. The marker text reads: 'The walls of this House of God are hallowed by the prayers of countless worshippers. For nearly a century the mellow tones of its bell have called the faithful to prayer, announced weddings with joy, and tolled in grief for those who have passed beyond.' This church stands as a significant example of early architecture in Anaheim.
