Durant Hall
historic place
Durant Hall, a historic place in Berkeley, California, is located in Alameda County. The building was completed in 1911. It was originally named the Boalt Memorial Hall of Law. Architect John Galen Howard designed the structure in the Beaux-Arts style. From 1911 to 1951, Durant Hall housed the UC Berkeley School of Law. In 1951, the law school moved, and the building was renamed Durant Hall. This honored Henry Durant, the university's first president. The building then served as the East Asian Library until 2007. After a 2010 renovation, it became home to the administrative offices of the College of Letters and Sciences. Durant Hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 25, 1982. The specific text from a historical marker for Durant Hall is not available. This building reflects significant changes in the university's academic landscape.
