Le Petit Trianon, Cupertino

historic place

In Cupertino, Santa Clara County, stands Le Petit Trianon, a historic place. Built in 1892 for Charles A. Baldwin and his wife, Ellen Hobart Baldwin, it was the center of their Beaulieu wine-producing estate. Architect Willis Polk designed the mansion with French Baroque Revival influences, drawing inspiration from the Grand Trianon at Versailles. It features unique "V" rustic redwood construction with a stucco finish. Le Petit Trianon was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. The house was even moved twice on the De Anza College campus. Today, it houses the California History Center, reflecting 19th-century California's architectural and agricultural past.
