Picchetti Brothers Winery
historic place
The Picchetti Brothers Winery, a historic place in Cupertino, Santa Clara County, has roots dating to the late 19th century. Vincenzo Picchetti immigrated from Italy in 1872, and his brother Secondo joined him. In 1877, the brothers purchased 160 acres on Montebello Ridge, initially selling their grapes to other wineries. By 1882, they built the first house on the property, followed by a larger residence in 1886. In 1896, the Picchetti brothers constructed their stone winery building and began producing their own wine. This made them one of California's early wineries. The ranch complex includes seven historic buildings erected between 1880 and 1920. After Vincenzo's death in 1904, his sons managed the operations, navigating challenges like Prohibition. During this period, they adapted by planting orchards and selling land. In 1979, the winery and associated buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Picchetti Brothers Winery illustrates Santa Clara Valley's agricultural past and early viticulture.
