St. Joseph’s College, Cupertino
historical marker
St. Joseph’s College was located in Cupertino, Santa Clara County, California. It opened on September 10, 1924, with the primary purpose of training candidates for the Catholic Priesthood. The college also educated thousands of young men who entered public service throughout the state and country. Its large, ornate building was architecturally designed to reflect California's early Spanish influence. Over its history, St. Joseph's grew to become one of the largest college seminaries in the United States. The institution operated until October 17, 1989, when the Loma Prieta Earthquake severely damaged its buildings beyond repair. This damage led to the college's eventual closure. A historical marker, erected in 2010, now stands at this site, commemorating St. Joseph's College and its role in the region's educational and religious history.
