Fresno County Hall of Records
historic place
The Fresno County Hall of Records stands as a historic place in Fresno, California. Construction on this three-story building took place between 1935 and 1937. It was dedicated in April 1937. The project received a $120,000 grant from the Public Works Administration, a New Deal-era federal agency. Allied Architects of Fresno, with Henry P. Villalon as the designer, created the building in the PWA Deco Moderne style. This architectural approach incorporates both Art Deco and stylized Neoclassical details. The Hall of Records originally served to house the county assessor, recorder, and vital records. An annex was later constructed in 1954 and 1955. In 2011, the Fresno County Hall of Records was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It remains a notable example of its architectural style and its historical role in Fresno County government.
