H. H. Brix Mansion, Fresno, California

historic place

The H. H. Brix Mansion, a historic place in Fresno County, California, was constructed between 1910 and 1911 for Herman H. and Helena S. Brix. Herman H. Brix was born in Germany in 1862 and immigrated to the United States in the early 1880s. He became a pioneering settler in the Coalinga area, contributing to its oil industry development. Brix later relocated to Fresno by 1903 and invested in properties there after 1909. The mansion, located at 2844 Fresno Street, was designed by architect Edward T. Foulkes. It is a three-story, twelve-room residence, featuring an Italian Villa style with an L-shaped plan and an observation tower. The building exhibits smooth stucco finishes and baroque ornamentation. Today, the H. H. Brix Mansion serves as corporate legal offices. This mansion remains a notable example of period-inspired Italian Villa architecture in Fresno.
