Old Administration Building, Fresno City College
historic place
The Old Administration Building at Fresno City College, located in Fresno County, is a significant historic place. Construction on this building began in 1915 and was completed in 1916. Designed by California State Architect George MacDougall, it was the first permanent structure on the campus. This building, in Spanish Renaissance style with Lombardic influences, originally housed administrative offices, classrooms, and a library. It is the only surviving complex from the Fresno State Normal School, which was the San Joaquin Valley's first institution for teacher training. The Old Administration Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. It closed in 1976 due to seismic regulations, but was later restored and reopened in 2011. This site marks a foundational step in the region's higher education development.
