Eden Congregational Church

historic place

The Eden Congregational Church, located in Hayward, Alameda County, is a historic place. The building was constructed in 1867. It originally stood on the southeast corner of A and First Streets in the town of Haywards, facing west. This wood frame structure is a representative example of rural mid-19th century Greek Revival design. The church building has been moved twice. In 1947, it was relocated approximately one mile north, along with its detached bell tower, to new property. It was then sited facing east. In 2003, the building was moved again, about 400 feet, to accommodate a renovation plan for the church campus. It now faces south. The Eden Congregational Church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. It remains in use today by the Eden United Church of Christ. This building holds historical importance as one of the oldest surviving churches in Alameda County.
