Crossroads of the World
historic place
Welcome to Crossroads of the World, a historic place in Los Angeles County. This complex, completed in 1936, was designed by architect Robert V. Derrah. It opened as one of America's first outdoor shopping centers. The central building resembles a ship, surrounded by structures in various international architectural styles. Crossroads of the World became Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument Number 134 in 1974. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Later, it transitioned into an office complex, serving the entertainment industry. Crossroads of the World is notable as an early example of a themed outdoor retail development.
