Guaranty Building
historic place
The Guaranty Building is a historic place in Hollywood, Los Angeles County. This twelve-story Beaux-Arts office building, standing 170 feet tall, was erected in 1923. It was designed by architects John C. Austin and Frederick M. Ashley and features Neo-Renaissance and Classical Revival characteristics. Built by the Guaranty Building and Loan Association of Los Angeles, it was one of Hollywood Boulevard's early commercial structures and the second building on the Boulevard to reach the city's height limit. Prominent investors included Charlie Chaplin and Cecil B. DeMille. The building also housed the offices of entertainment columnist Hedda Hopper. Following the Great Depression, the original owner declared bankruptcy in 1930, with Allstate Title Company moving in by 1931. In 1979, the Guaranty Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its history reflects a significant period in Hollywood's commercial and financial development.
