Toberman, C. E., Estate
historic place
The C. E. Toberman Estate, also known as Villa Las Colinas, is a historic place in Hollywood, Los Angeles County. This gated Mission Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival mansion was built for Charles E. Toberman. Toberman, a prominent real estate developer, was known as "Mr. Hollywood" and the "Father of Hollywood." He was instrumental in developing many of the area's landmarks, including the Hollywood Bowl, Grauman's Chinese Theatre, and the Roosevelt Hotel. Architects Russell and Alpaugh designed the estate, which was completed in 1924. The property spans two acres and includes a 19-room main house with eight fireplaces, a guest apartment, and a natatorium with a tiled swimming pool. The Toberman family resided here until 1941. The C. E. Toberman Estate was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. It was also designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1984. This estate reflects the architectural styles and significant development efforts that shaped early Hollywood.
