The Historic Motor Yacht ELECTRA

historic place

In Huntington Beach, California, you can find the historic motor yacht ELECTRA. This vessel was constructed in 1930. Its hull was built at Lake Union Drydock and Machine Works in Seattle, Washington. The superstructure and interior were completed by C. W. Wiley at the Todd Dry Dock Company, also in Seattle. Master naval architect Leslie Edward 'Ted' Geary designed the ELECTRA as a private pleasure yacht for Alton W. Leonard. The yacht measures over 96 feet in length. During World War II, it served briefly as a military support vessel. After the war, the ELECTRA returned to use as both a pleasure yacht and a charter vessel. Today, the ELECTRA is recognized as a historic place. It embodies the distinctive characteristics of an early twentieth-century motorized pleasure yacht. Its design by Ted Geary makes it a significant example of its type. The period of its historical importance dates to 1930, the year it was built and first placed into private service. The ELECTRA continues to convey its historical significance as a well-preserved example of classic yacht design.
