First National Bank of Long Beach
historic place
The First National Bank of Long Beach, a historic place in Los Angeles County, was organized in March of 1900. The prominent building at Pine Avenue and West First Street was erected in 1906. Los Angeles architects Robert F. Train and Robert E. Williams designed this six-story structure in a French Renaissance Revival style. A distinctive six-foot-diameter clock tower was added in 1907. The First National Bank occupied the building until 1920, and the bank itself was absorbed by Bank of America of California in 1929. After restoration in the 1980s, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 13, 1990. This site is a significant example of early 20th-century commercial architecture in Long Beach.
