historic place
The Long Beach Professional Building, at 117 East 8th Street, is a historic place in Long Beach, California. This eight-story Art Deco structure was completed in 1929, designed by architect William Douglas Lee. It features decorative concrete elements. The building was Long Beach's first large office building exclusively for medical professionals. It notably withstood the 1933 Long Beach earthquake. Designated a Los Angeles Historic Place in 1988, it joined the National Register of Historic Places on August 3, 2005. Today, it operates as an assisted living facility. This building remains an important example of 1920s Art Deco architecture in downtown Long Beach.
