Reeve, Jennie A., House

historic place

The Jennie A. Reeve House in Long Beach, California, is a historic place with architectural significance. It was designed by the renowned architects Greene and Greene and completed in 1904. The original owner was Jennie A. Reeve, a businesswoman and suffragist who also helped found the Long Beach Public Library. This house is considered one of Greene and Greene's most important designs. It served as a prototype for their mature bungalow style, where they successfully integrated various creative features into a cohesive architectural work. The house was originally located near the ocean in Long Beach. Over time, it was moved twice, eventually reaching its current site near the Virginia Country Club. During its final move, completed in 1927, Henry Greene oversaw a two-story addition. The Jennie A. Reeve House was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 21, 1984. Its design represents a crucial development in American Craftsman architecture.
