The Willmore, Long Beach, California
historic place
The Willmore, a historic place in Long Beach, California, is located in Los Angeles County. Originally known as The Stillwell, this building was constructed in 1925 and completed in 1927. It was designed in the Renaissance Revival style by architects Fisher, Lake and Traver, who also designed the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The Willmore was initially conceived as a U-shaped structure, but ultimately completed as an L-shaped building with ten and eleven-story wings. It first operated as a luxury apartment hotel. The building was designated a City of Long Beach Historic Landmark in 1986 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 20, 1999. The Willmore's current name honors William E. Willmore, who developed Willmore City, a forerunner to Long Beach. Today, The Willmore serves as residential condominiums, retaining its historical architectural character.
