US Post Office—Long Beach Main

historic place

The US Post Office—Long Beach Main, a historic place in Long Beach, California, was built between 1932 and 1934. It officially opened in September 1934. Designed by Louis A. Simon and the Office of the Supervising Architect, the building exhibits Art Deco and PWA Moderne architectural styles. Its construction was part of the New Deal's Works Progress Administration. The building notably continued construction after the 1933 Long Beach earthquake. In 1985, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places for its architectural significance. A historical marker confirms this designation by the United States Department of the Interior. This site represents federal architecture and public works from the 1930s.
