Griffin, Willard, House and Carriage House
historic place
The Willard Griffin House and Carriage House in Los Altos, California, is a significant historic place. Constructed in 1901, this estate was built for Willard M. Griffin, a prominent figure who established Griffin & Skelley, a company that later contributed to the formation of Del Monte Foods. The three-story main house exemplifies the American Craftsman style, designed by architects Frank Delos Wolfe and Charles McKenzie. It was built entirely using California redwood. The adjacent carriage house, also completed in 1901, originally served to house carriages, cows, and horses. Over time, it functioned as the Los Altos Hills Fire Department station and now holds the Foothill-De Anza Community College District archives. The entire property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 13, 1977. Today, the Willard Griffin House and Carriage House stands on the Foothill College campus, representing early 20th-century architecture and the region's agricultural and industrial heritage.
