Al Malaikah Temple

historic place

Al Malaikah Temple in Los Angeles, California, is a significant historic place. The Al Malaikah Shriners, a division of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, established their Los Angeles chapter in 1888. An earlier temple, built around 1906, was destroyed by fire in 1920. The current Al Malaikah Temple, also known as the Shrine Auditorium, opened on January 23, 1926. This landmark structure was designed in an ornate Moorish Revival style. It serves as the headquarters for the Al Malaikah Shriners and has also functioned as a major public auditorium. The building was designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1975. It was later added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. Al Malaikah Temple stands as a notable example of early 20th-century fraternal architecture and a long-standing venue for cultural events in Los Angeles.
