Andalusia, Los Angeles
historic place
Andalusia is a historic apartment building located in Los Angeles, California. It was designed and built in 1926 by the architectural team of Arthur and Nina Zwebell. This two-story structure exemplifies the Spanish Colonial Revival style, featuring stucco and tile, and is arranged around a central garden courtyard. The building originally contained nine living units. The Andalusia is recognized as a significant example of the Zwebells' work, who were master designers of courtyard buildings in the Los Angeles area. It is also considered an excellent representation of courtyard housing, an architectural type indigenous to the city. The building was designated a Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument in 1989 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. Over the years, many notable figures from Hollywood's Golden Age resided here, including Clara Bow, Cesar Romero, and Teresa Wright. The Andalusia remains an important example of early 20th-century Los Angeles architecture and its unique residential design.
