Bradbury House
historic place
The Bradbury House, a historic place in Los Angeles County, was built in 1922. Renowned local architect John W. Byers designed this adobe home for Lewis L. Bradbury, Jr. It stands as an excellent example of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, showcasing Byers' early work with adobe brick. The house features white stucco walls, wood casement windows, and a clay tile roof. Its U-shaped floor plan surrounds a courtyard, inspired by the El Greco Museum in Toledo, Spain. Decorative California art tiles are integrated throughout the design. The Bradbury House was declared a City of Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1994. It was later listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. The house sustained damage during the 1994 Northridge earthquake, leading to a significant twenty-year rehabilitation effort. This site is historically significant for its architectural style and its association with architect John W. Byers.
