Britt, Eugene W., House
historic place
The Eugene W. Britt House, a historic place in Los Angeles County, was built in 1910. This three-story, red-brick Classical Revival mansion was designed by architect Alfred Faist Rosenheim for attorney Eugene W. Britt. It stands in the West Adams district. In 1978, the City of Los Angeles designated the house Historic-Cultural Monument Number 197. It was also listed on the National Register of Historic Places in May 1979. The house faced demolition in the early 1980s but was saved. In 1984, it was converted into a sports museum, housing the collection of the Helms Athletic Foundation. This renovation cost approximately two million dollars. Since 1986, it has served as the headquarters for the LA84 Foundation and the LA84 Foundation Sports Library, which is recognized as a premier sports library. The Eugene W. Britt House is significant for its architectural style and its enduring role in preserving sports history.
