Bunche, Ralph J., House
historic place
The Ralph J. Bunche House is a historic place in Los Angeles County, California. This Victorian bungalow was built around 1908. Ralph J. Bunche moved into this home in 1918, living here during his formative years. He became the first person of color to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 1950. This was for his work negotiating the 1949 Armistice Agreements, which ended the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. The house was declared a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1976. A historical marker was erected that same year by the City of Los Angeles. This site is significant as the boyhood home of a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and a pioneering diplomat.
