Campo de Cahuenga
historic place
Campo de Cahuenga is a historic place in Los Angeles County. It is significant as the site where the Treaty of Cahuenga was signed on January 13, 1847. General Andrés Pico, representing Mexican forces, and Lieutenant Colonel John C. Frémont, representing the U.S. Army, signed this agreement. The treaty ended hostilities in California between the United States and Mexico, leading to California's acquisition by the United States. The original adobe structure at Campo de Cahuenga was demolished in 1900. A replica building was erected in 1950. The foundations of the historic adobe are preserved beneath the park. Campo de Cahuenga is important as the location where a pivotal agreement shaped California's history.
