Case Study House No. 1
historic place
In Los Angeles, California, stands Case Study House Number One. This historic residence was designed by architect Julius Ralph Davidson. It is part of the Case Study House program, launched by Arts & Architecture magazine in 1945. The program aimed to develop modern, efficient homes for the post-World War II era. While its design was the first published in 1945, the house was constructed in 1948. Located in North Hollywood, Case Study House Number One introduced key architectural elements. These included floor-to-ceiling glass, a flat roof, and an open floor plan. The house, approximately 2,000 square feet, was recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. It remains a significant example of mid-century modern residential design.
