Case Study House No. 9

historic place

In Los Angeles County, specifically Pacific Palisades, stands Case Study House Number Nine. Also known as the Entenza House, this historic place was completed in 1949. It was designed by industrial designer Charles Eames and architect Eero Saarinen for John Entenza, the editor and publisher of Arts & Architecture magazine. The house was part of the innovative Case Study House Program, which aimed to develop economical and easy-to-build housing solutions for post-World War II America. Case Study House Number Nine exemplifies Modernist principles with its steel-framed modular construction and an open-plan layout. Its design features expansive floor-to-ceiling glass doors, creating a connection between the interior and the surrounding landscape. John Entenza resided in the house for five years. It is located adjacent to the Eames House, Case Study House Number Eight. Case Study House Number Nine was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2013. It remains a private residence today. This site is historically significant for its contribution to modern residential design and the Case Study House Program.
