Catholic-Protestant Chapels, Veterans Administration Center
historic place
The Catholic-Protestant Chapels, also known as Wadsworth Chapel, stands within the Veterans Administration Center in Los Angeles, California. This historic place was erected in 1900. It was built to serve the spiritual needs of veterans residing at the Pacific Branch of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. The chapel features a unique design, housing two distinct sanctuaries under one roof, separated by a thick interior wall, allowing for simultaneous Catholic and Protestant services. Designed by J. Lee Burton, its architecture reflects a late-Victorian style. The building sustained damage during the 1971 Sylmar earthquake and has been closed since. In 1972, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, restoration efforts are underway to preserve the chapel, with plans to create an interfaith gathering space and a Center for Moral Injury Recovery. This chapel holds historical significance as the oldest building on Wilshire Boulevard.
