Centinela Adobe
historic place
The Centinela Adobe is a historic place located in Los Angeles County, California. It was built in 1834 by Ygnacio Machado. The adobe served as the ranch house for Rancho Aguaje de la Centinela, a Mexican Alta California-era land grant of 2,220 acres. The Centinela Adobe is one of 43 surviving adobes within Los Angeles County. It is considered the birthplace of Inglewood. Today, the Centinela Adobe operates as a house museum, maintained by the Historical Society of Centinela Valley in cooperation with the City of Inglewood. It was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on May 2, 1974. The site offers a direct connection to the region's early rancho period and its subsequent development.
