Ennis House
historic place
The Ennis House is a historic place located in Los Angeles County, California. Designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright, with construction supervised by his son, Lloyd Wright, it was completed in 1924 for Charles and Mabel Ennis. This residence is the largest of Wright's four textile block houses in Southern California. It is known for its Mayan Revival architectural style. The structure is formed from over 27,000 patterned concrete blocks, which were hand-cast on site from local materials. These blocks feature a Greek key design, inspired by ancient Mayan ruins. The Ennis House was designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1976. It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places, added in 1971, and holds status as a California Historical Landmark. This house represents a significant example of Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural vision.
