historic place

The Federal Building at 312 North Spring Street in Los Angeles was constructed from 1937 to 1940. Designed by Gilbert Stanley Underwood, this Art Deco building served as the U.S. Post Office and Court House. It gained national significance by hosting the 1946 *Méndez et al. v. Westminster School District* case. This legal challenge to school segregation was a precursor to *Brown v. Board of Education*. The Federal Building is a National Historic Landmark, important for its role in civil rights history.
