Garbutt House
historic place
The Garbutt House in Los Angeles is a historic place. Built between 1926 and 1928, this 20-room mansion was the residence of Frank A. Garbutt, an inventor and industrialist. Garbutt acquired a 37-acre hilltop site in Silver Lake in 1923. The house was constructed almost entirely of concrete and steel, including its roof. This design reflected Garbutt's fear of fire, and the house contained no fireplaces. The Garbutt House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. It has also served as a filming location. This structure remains a notable example of early 20th-century concrete construction in Los Angeles.
