Garment Capitol Building

historic place

The Garment Capitol Building in Los Angeles, California, is a historic place completed in 1926. Architect William Douglas Lee, known for the Chateau Marmont, designed this twelve-story structure in the Gothic Revival style. Lloyd and Casler Incorporated developed the building. Florence Casler, a co-founder, was a pioneering female real estate developer in Los Angeles, among the first women to lead a high-rise development company. Originally, the building housed garment manufacturers and merchants for Los Angeles's industry. In 1962, it was renamed the Anjac Fashion Building. The Garment Capitol Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. A 2012 restoration converted the property into loft-style residences, replacing its original rooftop finials. This building exemplifies early 20th-century Gothic Revival architecture and reflects a significant period in downtown Los Angeles's economic and architectural history.
