Hale House
historic place
Hale House, a historic place in Los Angeles County, California, was built in 1887. This Queen Anne-Victorian mansion was designed by architect Joseph Cather Newsom and constructed by real estate developer George W. Morgan. Originally located in Highland Park, the house was purchased by James G. Hale and his wife, Bessie, in 1901. The house gained recognition for its elaborate decoration and architectural detail. It was declared a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in June 1966, designated as Monument Number 40. In September 1972, Hale House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. To ensure its preservation, Hale House was carefully relocated in July 1970 to the Heritage Square Museum in Montecito Heights, where it is now open to the public. The historical marker on site describes it as 'a superb example of the Queen Anne - Eastlake Style.' This structure is significant as an outstanding representation of the late Victorian architectural period in Los Angeles.
