historic place

The Halifax Apartments, a historic place in Los Angeles County, is located at Yucca Street and Cahuenga Boulevard. Completed in 1923, this four-story building was originally known as the Cross Arms Apartments. Architectural firm Walker and Eisen designed the structure in the Italian Renaissance Revival style. Its original owner was Leach Cross, a former dentist and boxer. The apartments were built during Hollywood's 1920s housing boom, driven by the expanding film industry. It offered luxurious amenities for its era, such as furnished rooms, maid service, and a garage. In 1924, the building was renamed the Halifax Apartments. Notable residents included character actor Ned Sparks and opera star Ernestine Schumann-Heink. The Halifax Apartments was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 14, 1998. It represents an important example of Hollywood's early multi-family housing and architectural development.
