Heinsbergen Decorating Company Building

historic place

The Heinsbergen Decorating Company Building, located on Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles, California, is a historic place. This distinctive castle-like structure was built in 1928. Architects Curlett and Beelman designed it in a Late Gothic Revival and Romanesque style. The building served as the headquarters for Anthony Heinsbergen's mural-painting business for over 50 years. Heinsbergen's company, employing many artists, created murals for more than 700 theaters and significant buildings across North America. Notable examples in Los Angeles include the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, the Beverly-Wilshire Hotel, and Los Angeles City Hall. Uniquely, the building was constructed using bricks salvaged from the old Los Angeles City Hall, where Heinsbergen was also working on murals. Its features include a prominent cylindrical tower and detailed friezes depicting artisans. The Heinsbergen Decorating Company Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, recognizing its architectural significance and association with a prominent artist.
