Hollywood Argyle Apartments
historic place
The Hollywood Argyle Apartments, located in Los Angeles County, began construction in 1926. Local architect L.A. Smith designed this four-story building in the Italian Renaissance Revival style. It was erected during a significant period when Hollywood was transforming from a suburb into an urban center. The apartments were primarily intended to house temporary residents and small, middle-class families, often offering services similar to a hotel. Following World War II, the building experienced a period of decline. By 1995, it was cited for "life threatening slum conditions" before undergoing a full renovation. The Hollywood Argyle Apartments were added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 13, 2018. This site reflects the changing urban landscape and housing demands of Hollywood throughout the 20th century.
