Hotel Rosslyn Annex

historic place

The Hotel Rosslyn Annex, a historic place in Los Angeles County, stands at the corner of 5th and Main streets. This Beaux Arts style building was constructed in 1923. Architects Parkinson & Parkinson designed the annex. It was built by the Hart brothers, George and Dwight Hart, across from their original Rosslyn Hotel, which opened in 1914. The two structures were once connected by an underground marble tunnel. The Hotel Rosslyn Annex, along with the main hotel, was once the largest hotel on the Pacific Coast, offering 1,100 rooms. Both buildings were topped with large, heart-shaped neon signs, acknowledging the Hart brothers. The annex featured a marble-filled lobby and a skylight. The Hotel Rosslyn Annex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. After a period of decline, the building was renovated in 2015 to provide housing for homeless veterans and low-income individuals. This site is historically significant for its architectural style and its role in Los Angeles's early 20th-century hotel industry.
