Jefferson Branch
historic place
The Jefferson Branch, located in Los Angeles County, is recognized as a historic place. Its origins trace back to a deposit station established between 1912 and 1915. It then opened as a sub-branch in November 1915 at 2065 West Jefferson Boulevard. The current building, which stands at its present site, was constructed in November 1923. This structure was designed in the Spanish Colonial Revival style by architect C.E. Noerenberg. The library experienced a significant event when it closed in October 1983 due to arson damage. It subsequently reopened in June 1985. In 1985, the branch was officially renamed the Jefferson - Vassie D. Wright Memorial Branch Library, honoring Vassie D. Wright, a notable figure. The building underwent expansions in 1994 and again in 2002 to better serve the community. The Jefferson Branch was formally added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. This site demonstrates the development of public library services and architectural styles in Los Angeles during the 20th century.
