Kerckoff Building and Annex
historic place
The Kerckoff Building and Annex, a historic place in Los Angeles, is located at 558-64 South Main Street. The original ten-story Kerckoff Building was completed in 1908. Designed in the Beaux-Arts style by Morgan & Walls, it features reinforced concrete with white terra cotta tile exteriors. An eight-story annex, built of reinforced concrete and clad in glazed brick and terra cotta, was added in 1916. William G. Kerckhoff, a notable California financier, commissioned the complex. From 1908 through the 1980s, the Kerckoff Building and its annex served as the headquarters for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Company's Coast Lines. Kerckhoff sold the property to the Santa Fe Railroad in 1933. The Kerckoff Building and Annex is a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is significant for its Beaux-Arts architecture and its connection to William G. Kerckhoff and railway history.
