La Casa Del Rey, Los Angeles
historic place
La Casa del Rey is a historic place in Los Angeles, California, located in East Hollywood. This area saw substantial development beginning in the 1920s. Before La Casa del Rey was built, the site was part of a lemon grove, and later, a small building stood there. That structure was demolished in early 1927. The building permit for La Casa del Rey was issued on June 8, 1927. It was designed as a four-story, Class C, brick building, intended to house forty families in eighty-two rooms. H.D. Garrison was the owner, and McConville and Perryman served as the architects. The construction project was valued at one hundred thousand dollars. The certificate of occupancy was issued on November 23, 1927. La Casa del Rey is an example of Late 19th and 20th Century Revivals, specifically Mediterranean Revival architecture, featuring stucco and brick. Today, it continues its original function as a multiple-dwelling residence. Its construction in 1927 reflects the rapid development of East Hollywood during that decade.
