North Hollywood Branch

historic place

The North Hollywood Branch, officially the North Hollywood Amelia Earhart Regional Library, is a historic place in Los Angeles County. The current building opened on July 29, 1929. Architects Weston and Weston designed the structure in the Mediterranean Revival style. Initially, it was known as the Sidney Lanier Branch. In 1981, the library was renamed to honor aviator Amelia Earhart, who lived nearby. The building was designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1986. In 1987, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. An expansion in 1956 nearly tripled its size. This site is significant for its architecture and its role in the Los Angeles Public Library system.
