Storer House
historic place
The Storer House, a historic place in Los Angeles County, stands at 8161 Hollywood Boulevard in the Hollywood Hills. Architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed this residence for Dr. John Storer, a homeopathic physician, completing it in 1923. It is a notable example of Wright's Mayan Revival style and his innovative Textile Block System. This system used richly textured concrete blocks, reinforced with steel rods, which Wright intended as an affordable construction method. The Storer House is unique among Wright's textile block homes for featuring four distinct block patterns. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 and designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1972. In 1984, film producer Joel Silver undertook an extensive, award-winning restoration. The Storer House represents Frank Lloyd Wright's experimental architecture in Southern California.
