The Garfield Building

historic place

The Garfield Building, a historic place in Los Angeles County, is located at 403 West Eighth Street. Designed by architect Claud Wilbur Beelman, this Art Deco skyscraper was constructed between 1928 and 1930. The building showcases the Art Deco style through its geometric forms and detailed ornamentation. Its lobby features polished nickel fittings and black and purple marble. The Garfield Building became a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument on March 17, 1982, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 25, 1982. Originally commercial offices, the building has been vacant since 1991. Plans are now in place to convert it into a boutique hotel. This structure stands as a key example of Art Deco architecture in Los Angeles.
