Whitley Court
historic place
Whitley Court is a historic place located in Los Angeles, California, in the Hollywood area. Situated on Whitley Avenue just north of Hollywood Boulevard, the site's first structure was a two-story Queen Anne style residence, built between 1903 and 1905. In 1919, four two-story Dutch Colonial Revival style duplex bungalows were added, designed by architects Dennis and Farwell. These buildings originally provided housing for those employed in the growing film industry. By 1974, Whitley Court's buildings were converted to a mix of residential and office spaces. The site was designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument, number 448, on December 13, 1988. It was also listed in the National Register of Historic Places on July 28, 2004. A historical marker, erected in 1988 by the City of Los Angeles, notes its Dutch Colonial Revival style and 1919 construction. Whitley Court is historically significant for its architecture and its role in supporting Hollywood's early film community.
