Woman's Club of Hollywood

historic place

The Woman's Club of Hollywood, a historic place in Los Angeles County, was founded in 1905 by fourteen women. Their initial purpose was to establish a public library for the developing community of Hollywood. This library opened in a temporary location in 1906. Following this success, the club expanded its mission, evolving with Hollywood and contributing to its civic and cultural life. The current clubhouse, located at 1749 North La Brea Avenue, is a Spanish Colonial Revival style building. It was dedicated on April 22, 1949. This structure stands on the former campus of the Hollywood School for Girls. The City of Los Angeles recognized the club as a Historic-Cultural Monument in 1994, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016. The Woman's Club of Hollywood demonstrates the significant historical impact of women's civic leadership in shaping the community's early development.
