Bank of Los Banos Building

historic place

The Bank of Los Banos Building is a historic place in Los Banos, Merced County. It was erected in 1925. This building was designed to be a major business center for Los Banos. The town had lost most of its business district in a 1919 fire. Prominent businessmen Henry Miller and Charles Lux built the bank. The building features a Neoclassical design. Its exterior includes wall surfaces resembling piers, a dentiled cornice, and seven bays. An original frieze with cattle heads and garlands was removed in the 1930s for safety. The Bank of Los Banos Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 24, 1979. It stands as a significant commercial structure from that period.
