Church of St. Joseph, Los Banos, California
historic place
The Church of St. Joseph in Los Banos, California, stands as a historic place at 1109 K Street. This Romanesque Revival style building was completed in 1923. Charles Fantoni, a San Francisco architect, designed it, and Guy H. Wilson of Los Banos served as the builder. This structure replaced an earlier St. Joseph Church from 1891. That first building sustained significant damage in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Following its demolition in August 1922, construction for the present church began in September 1922. The Church of St. Joseph was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on July 8, 2004. It now houses the Los Banos Arts Council, maintaining its historical significance in Merced County.
