Los Gatos Historic Commercial District

historic place

Welcome to the Los Gatos Historic Commercial District, a designated U.S. Historic District in Santa Clara County. This area was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 13, 1991. The district's origins trace back to 1863, when a general store opened on Main Street. An official post office followed in 1864. By 1875, the area had grown to include multiple businesses, forming the town's earliest commercial intersection and a significant part of its 19th-century commercial center. The Los Gatos Historic Commercial District is significant for its association with the economic development of the community. It features the town's only surviving concentration of reasonably intact commercial buildings over 50 years old. Architectural styles present here range from Queen Anne and Richardsonian Romanesque to Mission Revival and Art Deco. Today, this district continues to be a lively commercial hub and an important part of local tourism.
